Liturgy of the Word for Children

Registration will begin soon for Liturgy of the Word with Children.

LWC will be offered from Sunday, September 11, to Pentecost Sunday, May 28, at both Sunday morning Masses.  Children from age 3 to 2nd grade are welcome to attend.

Fr. Ed will dismiss the children after the Gloria and they will return to the Worship Space after the Presentation of the Gifts.  The 3- to 5-year-olds will be in the St. John Paul the Great Room and the kindergarten to 2nd graders will be in the Bishop Povish Room.  Parents, you are welcome to accompany your children if they would be more comfortable with you there.

What is LWC?

Liturgy of the Word with Children (LWC) during Sunday Mass is a liturgical adaptation that provides an environment for “…active, conscious, authentic” participation of young children in the Liturgy of the Word proclaimed at Mass (Directory of Masses for Children, 1973, Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, The Vatican). In LWC, children hear the words of Scripture in an easier to understand form and have the opportunity to respond to the Word of God in ways appropriate to their experience and capacity.

  • Open to children ages 3 to 2nd Grade
  • Two groups: ages 3 to 5 and K-2nd Grade
  • Offered at the 9:00 and 11:00 am Sunday Masses from mid-September through Pentecost
