Year of Mercy

Pope Francis declared an “Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy” that began December 8th, 2015 and concluded November 20th, 2016. This year of mercy was intended to remind everyone in the Church of the love and mercy of God the Father. It encouraged us to seek mercy through sincere repentance as well as to be merciful in our actions towards others, especially through corporal works of mercy. At Christ the King, we tried to help our parishioners to celebrate the Jubilee of Mercy through contributions of prayers, books, websites and other media that added insight or practical tips on the subject of mercy. Some of those resources are listed below.

Nuestra Señora de la Merced by José Vergara

This is a somewhat lesser known version of the Mother of Mercy depicting Mary intimately involved in the supplications of the children given to her by Jesus from the cross in the person of St. John. This image reminds us of of the beloved prayer, the “Salve Regina,” in many ways the universal anthem of the Church sung especially in Latin.
