Sixth Grade

The sixth grade at Christ the King is now offered in the afternoon as well as the evening. In order to offer the afternoon class, we are not splitting classes by gender this year.

The goal of the 6th grade year is for the students to develop a deeper understanding of the Mass and the Commandments. The year will begin with a Bible study on John 6 and lessons on the liturgy and parts of the Mass. This portion of the year will culminate in a class Mass where the students will participate as much as possible using the concrete knowledge of the Mass parts that they gained over the semester. They will also be learning important hymns of the Church throughout the year

The second half of the year will focus on conscience formation and learning to live a moral life. They will cover the Commandments in a deeper way as they approach adolescence. .

The text for this year will be the Faith and Life Series for Grade 6: Following Christ.

Barb Oas, Sixth Grade Evening Catechist

Barbara has been a member of Christ the King since the beginning. She has been married for 40 years and has three adult children. She recently retired from Huron Valley Catholic School where she was the Media Specialist for the last 24 years. In 2016 she finished the five summer program for certification in the Apostolate of Catechists for the St. John Bosco Conference for Catechists and Religious Educators at Franciscan University of Steubenville. She has been a 6th grade catechist for the last five years.

Barbara is an adult convert and loves being Catholic. She also really enjoys teaching 6th graders. Teaching about the mass (1st semester of the class) is a tremendous blessing since it was her attraction to the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist that led her to become catholic. She also enjoys reading, gardening, taking walks and watching the Detroit Red Wings play hockey.
