Letter providing context of Pope Francis’ civil union remarks

A few weeks ago, a documentary film, Francesco, came out in which Pope Francis was presented as making remarks about civil unions that were causing confusion among the faithful. Subsequent analysis of the film revealed that the pope’s comments had been edited and taken out of context.

The Vatican Secretary of State shared with papal representatives a statement to be shared with their bishops providing some context to this remark. The Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Abp. Christophe Pierre, shared that information in a letter to the President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Abp. Jose Gomez. To read a copy of that letter, please click here.
